Lesson 2 – The Logical Path of a Home Inspection – 11 topics – 1 quiz – 2 hours

Lesson 3 – Roof Inspection – 16 topics – 10 quizzes – 7 hours

Lesson 4 – Plumbing Inspection – 17 topics – 11 quizzes – 7 hours

Lesson 5 – Mechanical Inspection (includes heating/cooling) – 13 topics – 8 quizzes – 7 hours

Lesson 6 – Structure, Exterior & Interior Inspection – 10 topics – 5 quizzes – 7 hours

Lesson 7 – Electrical Inspection – 4 topics – 2 quizzes – 6 hours

Day 1 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – The Home Inspection Process – 8 hours

Educational Objective 1: The learner will know the entire process of performing a full home inspection.  This portion of the class is designed to give the learner an overview of the home inspection, where to start, how to proceed through the house, which systems and components must be inspected and how to report the findings.  We will also focus on communication with the homeowner, home buyer and real estate agents present during the job.   The learner will be taught the history of the inspection business and review current industry standards of practice and code of ethics.

Day 2 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – Roof Systems Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 2: The learner will know how to identify and inspect roofing components using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues that can affect people or the performance of the building. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 3 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – Structure Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 3: The learner will know how to identify and inspect structural system elements using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues that may affect people or the structural stability of the building. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 4 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – Exterior Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 4: The learner will know how to identify and inspect building exterior components using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues that can affect people or the performance of the building. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 5 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – Plumbing Systems Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 5: The learner will know how to identify and inspect plumbing systems using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues that may affect people or the performance of the building. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 6 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – HVAC – Heating Systems Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 6: The learner will know how to identify and inspect heating systems using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues that may affect people or the performance of the building. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 7 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – HVAC & Separate Cooling Systems Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 7: The learner will know how to identify and inspect cooling systems using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues that may affect people or the performance of the building. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 8 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – Electrical Systems Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 8: The learner will know how to identify and inspect electrical system elements using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues or affect people. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 9 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – Interior Inspection – 8 hours

Educational Objective 9: The learner will know how to identify and inspect interior components using applicable standards for material selection, installation procedures, and maintenance to assess immediate and long-term safety issues as they may affect people or the performance of the building. Know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 10 – 8 AM – 6:00 PM – Site Conditions that Affect the Structure – 8 hours

Educational Objective 10: The learner will know how to identify and inspect site conditions using applicable standards for material selection and installation procedures to assess immediate and long-term safety and maintenance issues that can affect the building or people. The learner will know which professional and/or resource is most appropriate to refer a client to for maintenance/correction of defects.

Day 11 – Perform Home Inspection on your Own

Inspect a typical single family residence and write an inspection report.  Know the logical path of the inspection, how to use inspection software and how to communicate the inspection findings to the buyer, homeowner and real estate agents

  • 3-5 Hours Field Inspection
  • 1-3 Hours Write inspection report
  • Submit report to instructor for review
